Whales and Dolphins Museum, Puerto Calero
Another lesser known, and excellent museum ideal for family holiday trips in Lanzarote, is the Museo de Cataceos de Canarias, or Wales and Dolphins Museum located in Puerto Calero's attractive marina space. It's certainly an appropriate museum for the Canary Islands, as dolphins and whales abound in the surrounding Atlantic waters. Outside the museum is a giant skeleton of what appears to be a whale - giving you an idea of what to expect inside. The museum explores the evolution of whales and dolphins in detail through life sized reproduction models, skeleton collections, sounds and interactive displays, photographs and biological samples. Guided visits are available, as are group discounts. For a few more details check out the Dolphins and Whales Museum weblink right. Numerous Dolphin and Whale sight seeing tours are available from Puerto Calero Marina too!
Aquarium, Arrecife
Continuing on the family marine attraction theme, why not take a peak at Lanzarote's Aquarium situated in the capital Arrecife. There's a lot going on here in this huge aquarium which has 33 aquariums full of tropical fish and marine life found around the Canary Islands. The underwater tunnel here is also very popular. If you're not into trying a spot of diving whilst on Lanzarote, then the aquarium in Arrecife is the next best thing, taking you on a learning journey on the underwater seaworld around Lanzarote. Lanzarote Aquarium is open from 10.00am to 19.00pm every day.
Submarine Safaris
Mind you, there is another alternative to diving - and that's the very popular yellow submarine safari which takes you below the water around Puerto Calero to view the underwater world through the large viewing ports provided. All in airconditioned comfort. A magic experience offering a great opportunity to families to explore the marine life around Lanzarote together
